24 Crime Drama
The 24 Crime Drama is a widely popular TV show made by fox and initially televised in America, although it has now gained worldwide recognition. The show focuses on the exploits of Jack Bauer, portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland, an agent of the American government who fights against domestic terrorism. So far there have been six series of the show, and a seventh is due to air in American very soon. There are twenty four episodes in every series and each 45 minute program represents one hour in the life of the protagonist Jack Bauer. This unique real time presentation of the show is one of the key aspects of its success as it sets it apart from the many other programs which tackle similar themes.
The storylines in the 24 crime drama are frequently complex and the notion of making sacrifices for the greater good is a recurring theme. The fast paced and complex story lines influence the unique visual style of the show which frequently employs split screens to follow the action, phone conversations and simultaneously show the reactions of two characters to a situation. However many of the shows detractors criticise this style arguing that it makes it difficult to watch.
The 24 crime drama is also known for its frequent and sometimes graphic depictions of torture and other violations of human rights. The show has faced a great deal of criticism because of this and many people argue that it glorifies the use of torture as an effective method of interrogation.
